UK-based plastics moulding technology company Cinpres Gas Injection is to invest £50,000 (€57,000) in updating its technical capabilities at its facility in Middlewich in the north-west of England.
“We do a lot of technical development with customers to help them find ideal solutions for particular applications. Consultancy work of this sort is a big part of our business,” said Cinpres Gas Injection managing director, Jon Butler.
“We now have some fairly extensive R&D projects and we need to beef up the facility to do them justice,” he said.
The investment will be spent on new ancillary machinery along with a variety of mould maintenance and support equipment that will bring the 160 sqm technical centre up to the levels of capability expected of a typical production injection moulding cell.
Butler said replacement of the company’s existing 350 tonne Sandretto moulding machine is not included in the facility upgrade.
“It is only a mid range machine but assisted moulding does not need high clamp forces. You really only need to be able to deliver an accurate moulding shot – you don’t need top-of-the-range,” said Butler.
Butler reports a high level of interest in assisted moulding production technologies at present, particularly for water assisted techniques, external gas moulding and combinations of assisted technology.
“The focus at the moment is on solving particular problems with water [assisted moulding] in niches where we can add a lot of value,” he said. “We are working on three water projects for automotive applications and one external gas moulding for electronics.”
The upgrade project is already underway and is expected to be complete by April.
